Patrick Long claimed his fourth victory of 2010 at the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Mosport today, extending his championship lead in the GT class to 22 points with only 30 points on offer in the season finale at the Petit Le Mans in September. Long and teammate Jörg Bergmeister avoided many on-track incidents and bested their competition, putting further distance between themselves and the championship-hopeful #90 BMW and #62 Ferrari.

Patrick Long and his teammate Jörg Bergmeister retained their 2010 ALMS GT Championship lead today with a fourth place finish at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. In an incredibly close race, Patrick’s teammate finished just .4 second behind the 3rd place finisher, and only 5.298 seconds behind the winner. The top six cars in GT were covered by a scant 6.736 seconds.
2nd Overall at 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps

Patrick Long, fresh off a win in American Le Mans Series competition at Lime Rock, Connecticut, rejoined his longtime French team IMSA Performance MATMUT to take 2nd overall at the FIA-GT Total 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium. Driving the #16 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with fellow Porsche works drivers Patrick Pilet, Richard Lietz and team owner Raymond Narac, Long qualified second in the GT2 category, and completed a 1-2 finish for Porsche, coming home 1:16.822 behind the overall winner.
Victory at Lime Rock; Long Regains Championship Lead

Patrick Long and teammate Jörg Bergmeister claimed their third win of the 2010 ALMS season and second consecutive win at Lime Rock, crucially helping them regain the GT2 Driver’s Championship lead. Long, who started the race from pole, drove two stints in the race and held off two BMWs and the #61 Ferrari for the last 45 minutes of the race to win by a scant 1.495 seconds.

Patrick Long was fastest in qualifying for tomorrow’s ALMS Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock, setting a fast lap of 1:03:904, good for a .474 second gap to his closest competition. Long and his teammate Jörg Bergmeister will seek to regain the championship lead at the scene of one of their six 2009 victories.

Patrick Long finished 5th at the 2010 ALMS Grand Prix of Utah today, after looking likely for a 3rd place finish. A puncture in his left rear tire forced Long to pit under green with only 45 minutes remaining in the race, ceding his podium position.

The American Le Mans Series race at Laguna Seca in May 2010 will go down in the Series’ history as among the most hard-fought, tense races to date. After nearly six hours of nose-to-tail racing, Patrick Long measured the final restart perfectly, getting the inside line into turn 11 and onto the front straight, then out-dragging the BMW of Joey Hand in the run to turn one. Porsche Panorama, the official magazine of the Porsche Club of America, did a feature for its July issue about the race, and Porsche’s success.

Patrick Long finished 5th at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving the #76 IMSA Performance MATMUT Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Long and his teammates kept pace with the eventual winners until the halfway point in the race, when their clutch failed and they were forced to spend nearly 20 minutes in the garage repairing the car.

Flying Lizard Motorsports scored another dramatic GT victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with Patrick Long winning in class by 0.365 seconds with Jörg Bergmeister over BMW’s Joey Hand. Long passed Hand on the inside of Turn 11 just as the green flag flew on the final restart with eight minutes left, a legal move. The race had been a knock-down, drag-out fight for its entire 6 hour duration, with eight different cars leading at one time or another – three Ferraris, two Corvettes, two BMWs and Long’s #45 Flying Lizard Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Long and Bergmeister claimed the championship lead with their second consecutive win, heading into the ALMS’ summer break for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
